    • Overnight: Cairo
  • 2 The Pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum

A private guided morning at the Great Pyramids of Giza — Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos — with the Sphinx below them and the Valley Temple beside it. Lunch at a local Egyptian restaurant, then the Egyptian Museum in the afternoon, where the Tutankhamun material is the draw but the ordinary objects are what stay with you.

    • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
    • Overnight: Giza
  • 3 Fly to Aswan and board the cruise

A flight south after breakfast. Your private guide takes you to the Temple of Philae, built for Isis and standing on Agilkia Island, and then to the High Dam of Egypt. You board the boat afterwards, have lunch on board, and the cruise gets under way.

    • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • 4 Kom Ombo and Edfu

Breakfast on board before the boat reaches Kom Ombo, a double temple built for Sobek and Horus the Elder; the surgical instruments carved into one of its walls are among the oddest things surviving from the ancient world. Then Edfu, reached by horse-drawn carriage, where the Temple of Horus is one of the best-preserved in Egypt. Dinner on deck.

    • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • 5 Luxor's West Bank

You leave the boat at its Luxor mooring and cross the river. The Valley of the Kings first, where Tutankhamun and many other pharaohs were buried, then the Temple of Hatshepsut cut into the cliffs, and finally the Colossi of Memnon. Back aboard for the night.

  • 6 Luxor's East Bank, then Cairo
