The Steigenberger Senator has just 16 suites and sails five days from Luxor to Aswan, visiting Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae.
You board before lunch, and after a welcome meal your Egyptologist takes you out to the East Bank. Karnak first, and it takes a while to cross — towering columns, sacred obelisks and inscriptions running over most available surfaces. Then Luxor Temple, joined to Karnak by the Avenue of Sphinxes. Dinner back on board.
Across the river for the Valley of the Kings, where the rulers lie under richly decorated ceilings, then the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. Lunch on board as the Senator starts south through the Esna Lock. Afternoon tea on the sundeck, then the Captain's cocktail party and dinner.
The Temple of Horus at Edfu after breakfast, a Ptolemaic building so complete that the scenes of divine battle and ritual can be read straight off the walls. Sailing to Kom Ombo for lunch, then the double temple there, built for Sobek and Horus the Elder, where the reliefs record ancient medicine and healing and the museum next door holds the mummified crocodiles. A Galabeya party after dinner as the boat continues towards Aswan.
The High Dam first, then the Unfinished Obelisk lying in the quarry it was cut from, and the Temple of Philae. Lunch on board, and in the afternoon a felucca — sail only, no engine — across to the Botanical Gardens. Dinner and a Nubian show to finish.
A last breakfast on board, then you disembark and we handle your onward travel arrangements.
